Charles Blaize will be presenting at the 2024 Gulf Coast Land Institute put on by the Lafayette Association of Professional Landmen (LAPL) in conjunction with the American Association of Professional Landmen (AAPL). This year’s event will be held on October 10th and 11th in Lafayette Louisiana at the Doubletree by Hilton on Pinhook Road.
Presentation Title: Who’s ya Daddy? Where’s ya Momma and them? The effect of same-sex marriage on title and equal protection.
Session Synopsis: The effects of ownership of spouses and children emanating from the Failure of Louisiana laws to evolve after the constitutional right to marriage in same-sex couples. Custody rights are only the tip of the iceberg. The presentation will discuss property rights, inheritance rights, tutorship, and other parental rights that affect ownership under Louisiana law.

Speaker Bio:
Mr. Blaize was born in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana on April 30, 1970. Mr. Blaize graduated from Vanderbilt Catholic High School. He is a graduate of Louisiana State University (B.A., 1993) Paul M. Hebert Law Center, Louisiana State University (J.D., 1998), and was admitted to the Louisiana Bar in 1998 and the Texas Bar in 2017. Mr. Blaize is a founding and managing partner of the firm of Fondren Blaize in the Baton Rouge Office. Mr. Blaize primarily practices in oil and gas title examination. Mr. Blaize also practices complex property ownership and right-of-way litigation, royalty/leasehold, and commercial real estate. Throughout his career, Mr. Blaize has handled a wide variety of complex litigation, title review, and title opinions including severance issues, property ownership issues, and mineral law issues
Mr. Blaize grew up in Houma, Louisiana, and settled in Baton Rouge, Louisiana after becoming an attorney. He was President of the Student Bar Association in 1997-1998 and was inducted into the Louisiana State University Law Center Hall of Fame in 1998. Since 1998, Mr. Blaize has practiced Oil and Gas and Property Law in the State of Louisiana. Mr. Blaize has rendered countless title opinions and litigated cases successfully all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Mr. Blaize has also served as an LSU Law School Adjunct Faculty member, as a part of the Trial Advocacy Program, and teaches the Environmental and Natural Resources Paralegal Course as part of the LSU Continuing Education Program.
